Communication Skills in the Workplace - Toolkit

A toolkit to promote a culture of open communication among employees

The Challenge

The best-performing teams have one thing in common: psychological safety—the feeling of being able to speak up, take risks, and make mistakes without fear of negative consequences. For this purpose, the Learning & Development Department of the University of Leiden requested a communication toolkit to foster open communication and psychological safety within the university. We didn't want this toolkit to be just a repository of information. Instead, we aimed to make it practical and actionable.

This was a collaborative effort with Rechtdoorzee.

The Work

Our project centered on the idea of engaging individuals in grasping the project's purpose, cultivating desired behaviors, and equipping them with the skills to make effective agreements while preventing and resolving conflicts. We firmly believe that mastering the art of effective communication comes not from passive reading but from active practice. Thus, we focused on infusing interactivity and creativity into the toolkit, going beyond traditional learning styles.
